Doug Walden, 82, of Highlands, Texas and formerly of Shakopee, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008 in Houston, Texas.
Memorial service is Monday, Nov. 17, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Baytown, Texas with the Rev. Bonnie Parker officiating.

Asperger's syndrome was brought forth as a possible defense in the Craigslist murder case by defense attorneys during a hearing this week.
Attorney Alan Margoles said that Michael John Anderson has been diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome and was "laboring under it" so that he "didn't know the nature of his actions or that they were wrong.”

The U.S. Senate race recount has already started in other areas of the state, including neighboring Carver County, but Scott County’s ballots won’t be hand-counted until Dec. 3.
Counties in charge of their own recount were able to select which day they will conduct it. Carver County chose Wednesday, the first day possible.

The Humane Society said today that Petland stores are selling puppies from so-called puppy mills, but telling customers that the dogs come from good breeders.
The animal-protection group made the charges at a news conference in Washington after an eight-month investigation of the chain. It involved 21 Petland stores, including two Minnesota stores, and dozens of breeders and brokers.
Wilbert L. Neve, 86 of Prior Lake, passed away Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008 at the Belle Plaine Lutheran Home.

An 18-year-old Minneapolis man was arrested after he allegedly pulled a gun, cocked it and pointed it at a father and son who confronted the man about money he stole in the parking lot of the Tiowakan Spiritual Center on the Shakopee Mdewakanton Dakota reservation in Prior Lake on Nov. 13.
Bob Mertz, a former member of the Shakopee City Council and School Board, died on Tuesday at St. Francis Regional Medical Center.
Mertz, 87, served as a city alderman for five years and on the Shakopee School Board for 12 years.
Among his survivors is wife Bettie. The couple recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Canterbury Park has proposed a 62-day racing season in 2009, five fewer days than this year’s meet.
