Local party politics

Filed under:

The Carver County Republicans met last Saturday at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chanhassen.

Sen. Norm Coleman said Carver County is an important part of the state for his reelection bid. "I've always done well here," he commented. "It's a great community for me. They understand the American dream. They understand you don't solve a problem by putting the government in charge of it. They have a vision."Coleman takes a question: Sen. They'll probably get together again this Saurday to iron out some propositions they want added to the party's platform.

There were plenty of balloons, which served as entertainment for the kids who came to join in the meeting.

As the meeting dragged on into the afternoon, Olya Veit, 9, Victoria, and Karissa Adams, 6, Chanhassen, took to putting Paul Kohls tattoos on their arms and playing with ballons. Kohls claims he had nothing to do with it.

The Carver County Republicans are talking about adding the following propositions to their platform, in hopes that they can be added to the state GOP platform.

S. Reducing foreign aid given to countries whose citizens are here illegally and are incarcerated in U.S. prisons to cover the expense of their
incarceration

T. A resolution in the Minnesota Legislature that less war in the world is more pro-life and more family-safe

U. Rescinding free-trade agreements, as they export jobs and the prosperity they provide

V. Completion of the construction of the 700 mile Southern Border Fence required by the Secure Fence Act, constructing more miles if needed, and
keeping the National Guard on the border until it is secured.

W. Deterrence of illegal entry by expanding the already successful Zero Tolerance Prosecution Policy (Operation Streamline) from three to all 20
border sectors, and statutory mandatory minimums for the crimes of illegal
entry, reentry, and reentry after deportation for any felony.

X. Completion of the 10 year Past Due Exit portion of the USVISIT (Visitor and immigrant status indicator technology) system and eliminating
other weaknesses in the system so that future visa overstays can be identified.

Y. Ending of the jobs magnet by requiring all employers to use the electronic verification system to check the legal status of all employees,
and reducing fraud by decreasing the number of documents employers must accept to prove legal status and offer cooperating employers a safe harbor

Z. Requiring a biometric ( fingerprint encoded) identification card for all aliens authorized to work in the United States

AA. Increasing security for legal workers by requiring Social Security earnings statements to list all employers reporting wages under an
individual’s Social Security number so that fraudulent use of that number can be spotted, and continuing to use no-match notices as evidence that employers knew they were importing an illegal alien under a Social Security number issued to someone else

AB. Formation of effective enforcement integration partnerships with state and local law enforcement by clarifying their authority to enforce federal
immigration laws, deputizing state and local officers in every state (through the 287 (g) Program), offering a basic training course for all state and local officers, and by compensating state and local entities for immigration enforcement related expenses.

AC. Immediate evaluation of the 27% of prisoners that are non-citizens so that illegal alien criminals can be processed and deported at the end of their
sentences, and implementation of a mandatory federal response to state and local law enforcement when they apprehend an illegal alien
