The Wolves: Do they have bite?

Any Minnesota Timberwolves fans out there?

Last night while waiting for voting results from the Minnetonka School District, I watching my first game this season.

They didn't look good through about three quarters, and I felt like they had the same spirit we were seeing in the Vikings until they found a leader.

Then the Wolves seemed to come alive in the fourth quarter. They remain winless, but maybe they have a lot of potential.

I'm a Wolves' fan. I think the direction the team is taking this year is a lot better than the dead-end direction they had been taken.

Kevin Garnett is a great player and it's tough to see him go. But the Wolves, with their salaray cap situation at the time, had no chance to put complimentary pieces to go with Garnett to contend in the Western Conference.

This is the way to go. The Wolves may only win 15 games, but at least you can see the direction the team wants to go, as opposed to the treading water it did for the last three seasons with KG.

I agree. I'm happy for KG and Boston. Last week I heard a sports commentator rank the Timberwolves as the worst team in the NBA. Ouch!

Seems that even Prince, who used to attend Timberwolves games, is now taking shots at the winless Wolves.

"I'm out like the Wolves in the 1st/Awwh, but, we go'n get it 2gether though."

Skippers basketball ranked nationally

The Minnetonka High School Skippers basketball team is pre-seasoned ranked 24th in the country. In the Midwest, Minnetonka is ranked fourth.

Hardwood magazine, which is published for all high school basketball players and coaches, as well as college men’s basketball players, released the rankings. The summary highlights the strength of Minnetonka’s five returning starters. Four of these starters averaged more than ten points a game last year.

Two of the key players outlined in the summary, Anthony Tucker and C.J. Erickson, have already signed with NCAA Division I institutions, University of Iowa and University of Evansville respectively.

The Skippers will kick off the season with a home game opener against Roseville on December 11. The team will host Tonka Pride Night on January 8. Tickets for free admittance to this game will be posted to the District Web site at the end of January.

Wolves win first game of season

The Timberwolves scratched and clawed their way to victory Wednesday night over the Sacramento Kings, 108-103.

They had bite, and it was nice to see point guard Rashad MacCants drop in a career high and game high  33 points, hitting some huge shots in the fourth quarter.

The team had a good all around effort, as Antoine Walker added 19 off the bench, and Al Jefferson scored 23 down low. Marco Jaric scored nine points and also grabbed some huge boards.

It was a fun game to watch and a great way to start their homestand. I've got tickets to watch them match up with Cavaliers next Wednesday. Have you ever been to a T-Wolves game?

LeBron James was awesome, and the Timberwolves couldn't stop him.

We were at the game, and just when the wolves had clawed back to within two points midway through the fourth quarter, James decided to take the game into his own hands. He drove the lane at will and hit a couple of clutch three-point shots, ending the game with 45 points.

Adrian Peterson from the Vikings was there, and I'll bet he was impressed- with King James.

Overall, it was a fun experience. At least the wolves came back from their second and third quarter disasters to make a game of it. King James was undstoppable, and it didn't appear that he even broke a sweat.

Afterward my daughter suggested that the wolves change their name to the fishies because real wolves should be at the top of the food chain.

In a game the Wolves apparently dominated from the start through the fourth quarter, they picked up their second win of the season and their first road win.

It was against New Orleans, a team that defeated them last week.

I only caught the last few minutes, but let's hope they can emulate that effort. The commentators credited solid play off the bench and from the point guards.

Antybody planning to see Kevin Garnett and Boston when they come to Minneapolis in February?

Since their win, the Wolves have put together some pretty pathetic performances, last night against the Lakers included. The Wolves have allowed more than 100 points nine times this season.

Wolves spellbound

One game after upsetting the dynamic Phoenix Suns in Minneapolis, the Timberwolves were thrashed in a road game against the Washington Wizards Tuesday night.

Despite a career-night from starter Craig Smith, who scored 36 points, the Wolves were outplayed on both ends of the court from start to finish. Their record now is 3-16.

Do they have bite? Not much, but they've got baby teeth.

What's the point? I think we've all got the same idea by now that the Timberwolves are a pathetic team. Watching them play is painful, and keeping track of their record this season is like watching the movie Rocky, but only the part where he gets beaten to a bloody pulp.

The Pioneer Press is reporting today that with Theo Ratliff's nearly $4 million buyout, when added to contract buyouts of Troy Hudson and Juwan Howard, brings the Timberwolves' buyout total this season to nearly $24 million. The team needs new management.
