Airport bombs

In the past year, 75 percent of the "fake bombs" brought through screenings at LAX weren't detected. The number of missed bombs at Chicago's O'Hare Airport was 60 percent and at San Francisco International, 20 percent of the "bombs" went unnoticed. Do these numbers scare you?

These numbers don't surprise me. In the private sector, excusing failure 60 percent of the time or 75 percent of the time would be unacceptable and would likely result in mass firings.

What will happen to federal airport screeners? Comparatively, San Francisco International Airport screeners, who work for a private company, missed about 20% of the bombs, the report shows.
