Fire damages Applebee's

Chanhassen firefighters responded early Monday morning to an alarm at Applebee's (590 West 79th Street). Chief Roger Smallbeck reported the fighters were dispatched at 12:16 a.m.

On arrival, they observed flames on the roof of the popular family eatery.

Late-night fire damages Applebee's

Chanhassen firefighters responded late Sunday night to an alarm at Applebee's. A sign on the building entrance Monday morning stated the popular family eatery would be closed temporarily due to an electrical fire. More news here.

Level 3 offender leaves Chanhassen

Ronald Rudolph Ernst, the Level 3 sex offender who moved into Chanhassen on Monday, has moved away from the city and the state, according to Carver County Sherrif's Lt. Jim Olson.

Just as Ernst registered at the Carver County Courthouse on Monday, he informed the county on Friday that he's leaving and has no specific destination. The sheriff's office will notify the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension of the change in Ernst's status, said Olson.

"When he came in, he said it was temporary. Now he has decided he wants to go out of state," Olson said.

Ronald Rudolph Ernst, date of birth September 6, 1944, is a white male, 6 feet  tall, weighing 240 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.  He recently moved to an address on Flying Cloud Drive in Chanhassen and then moved away on Friday, March 5.

Update: Man id'd in snowmobile fatality

Lucas Matthew Rasset, 28, of Buffalo, has been identified by the Carver County Sheriff's Office as the snowmobiler who died in an accident near New Germany on Saturday, Feb. 20.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Rasset died after colliding with a guide wire extending from a power pole along County Road 33.

At 2:48 p.m., winter parking violations were reported in Chanhassen.

At 5:03 p.m., responded to the 1400 block of Heron Drive in Chanhassen for a report of damage to a mailbox.
