Cristian is a college

Cristian is a college student, an artist and an international human rights advocate. He also serves as the administrator of Resurrection Lutheran Church in San Salvador -- the congregation served by Bishop Medardo Gomez. A special offering will be taken for Cristian's fund to re-build Resurrection Church, which stands in the most impoverished neighborhood in the capital city and is now too run-down to repair.

In favor of a higher

In favor of a higher Levy?

In tough economic times when individuals must consume less and live leaner, doesn't it make sense for the government to downsize? The government is funded by the people. Do people exist for the purpose of funding larger government that wants to consume more from the private market? In economic terms, would government be considered a producer or consumer?
Given the rising price of gasoline, what right do law makers have to pass legislation that increases levies that raise taxes even more? Is this immoral?

Light pole installation at

Light pole installation at Lake Ann Park began last fall. Contractors are adding a total of 22 new light poles around baseball/softball and soccer fields in the park.

"When you light a ballfield, it nearly doubles your capacity for games," said Chanhassen Park and Recreation Director Todd Hoffman. "We're continuing our efforts to increase our field capacity for youth and adult activities."

A shelter is also going up. It will be called Park View Picnic Shelter and will have a capacity of 100-400 people.

The lighting is scheduled for completion by April 15, and the shelter by the middle of May.

Notice the icicles hanging

Notice the icicles hanging from Toohey's hat.

I've never seen so many frozen beards, faces and hats as I saw watching Mora Vasaloppet skiers cross the finish line. When I got to the Main Street and walked over to the path of snow that skiers went across to finish the race, Toohey happened to be finishing.

Always on duty, I shot him with my digital camera and told him I'm from the Chanhassen Villager.

Why was I there? It wasn't to see Dave Toohey, although that was fun. Actually, my mother took part in the race. She's 54, lives in Mora, and finished #249 with a time of 4:38:10. That was about one hour after Toohey. Needless to say, waiting for her was a cold experience.

I have a direct view of the

I have a direct view of the sign from my front yard and porch. Some nights the sign is really bright and distracting it depends on what Halla puts on it and how it is displayed. Other nights I don't even notice it. If I think the sign becomes a problem I'll talk to Mr. Halla about it. That’s what grown up adults do, or are supposed to do; it is also what properly raised children do.
The city should focus on important problems and invest our resources on the solution to the important problems.
Some nice things about the sign are it is; not blue gray, beige or boxy and doesn't look like the newer developments in Chanhassen. It doesn't really belong in Chanhassen: it's not cheap “ticky tacky”, it's well built, not made out of press board. The sign wasn’t paid for with T.I.F. financing, tax payers don't foot the bill for the sign.
The sign is like the new 312 highway: It is the state of the art. It is in the wrong location to be the most effective for it’s cost.
The sign is not like the new 312: No former city, county or state politician is making any profit off the design, location or public financing of the sign. The sign wasn’t put up or built to put money into the pockets of the cronies of our political hacks, no one is asking the tax payers of Carver County or their children to pay county wide to support any improvements of the sign. The sign is the least of our problems here in “Crony County”.

PS
If Mr. Halla wants the city and the city council to get off his back, he could offer to let them display reproductions of the political lawn signs that pollute the roads and yards of Chanhassen every election year. Then only the losers would complain about his sign.

Bob Wold
