Alleged mortgage fraud scam involves properties in Chanhassen
September 20, 2007 - 1:25pm — FAdams
One of the businesses, and some of the homes involved in a multi-million dollar alleged mortgage fraud scam in the southwest metro are located in Chanhassen. Chanhassen City Councilor and South Lake Minnteonka Police Chief Bryan Litsey reported on Friday that the South Lake Minnetonka Police Department (SLMPD) is one of several law enforcement agencies involved in this ongoing investigation, which is being prosecuted through the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office. One of the defendants, Shinon Lindberg, resides in a multi-million dollar home in the SLMPD area, and a search warrant was executed at his house in the City of Greenwood on Sept. 13. Overall, three people have been charged in the alleged scam, and the Hennepin County Attorney’s office has filed eight charges of felony racketeering and theft by swindle over $35,000 against the individuals: Scott R. Rosenlund, Chaska, owner of 10Spring Homes, Inc., Celeste Skaar, owner of New Day Capital, a mortgage brokerage, Orono, and Shinon Lindberg, Greenwood, who allegedly recruited straw buyers. Rosenlund, Skaar and Lindberg allegedly worked together to find buyers for “flipped” properties -- real estate that was bought and resold for a large profit, according to the criminal complaint filed against Lindberg.
The scheme allegedly provided illicit commissions to Skaar's mortgage brokerage firm and illegal profits to Lindberg and 10Spring owner Rosenlund. 10Spring Homes, Inc., is located at 7925 Stone Creek Drive, Suite 120, Chanhassen. The company's Website describes it as as "a family business inspired by family ideals." It was incorporated in the year 2000. The Chanhassen properties mentioned in the complaint are located on Minnewashta Parkway and Lotus Trail. Other properties mentioned are in Prairie Estates of Eden Prairie, on Byron Drive of Greenwood, and in Victoria and Chaska. According to the complaint, the defendents tried to swindle more than $35,000 from M& I Bank on or about August 30.
