Lightning strike

(Submitted photo) Victoria, Chaska, Waconia and Excelsior fire departments responded to a house fire at 8818 Ridge Ponds Drive in Victoria Thursday. A lightning strike apparently caused the fire, according to neighbor John Hetzler, who took this photograph.The lightning strike occurred between 3:45 and 4 p.m., Hetzler said.

Jeff Engelhart and Charlie Eiler from the Chanhassen Parks and Recreation Department, take a break from shoveling and raking wood chips near the Chanhassen Skate Park with Minnetonka High School students Lotta Siekkinen, 17, Finland, staying in Shorewood, Frederikke Kjaergaard, 16, Denmark, staying in Chanhassen, and Bridgette Sperry, 17, Minnetonka. After the school year, Siekkinen and Kjaergaard plan to return to school in their home countries. Sperry plans to enroll in Winona State University.

Arb's Summer House is open

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum's Summer House is open for the season. Located at the corner of Highway 5 and Rolling Acres Road, the Summer House sells plants, flowers, shrubs and trees; inside, shoppers can buy gardening tools, seeds, and lawn décor and accessories, maple syrup, University of Minnesota produced brats and breakfast sausage, Emma Krumbee’s apple pies, and in a few weeks fresh locally grown produce. The Summer House is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
