Community Band holds a 'Jubilee' April 20
April 18, 2008 - 10:42am — rcraw
The Minnesota Valley Community Band presents a free “Jubilee” concert 7 p.m., Sunday, April 20 at the Chaska High School auditorium. Soloists featured with the band will be soprano Sonja Du Toit Tengblad and tubist Doug Riemer. The band is using the 150th anniversaries of the state of Minnesota and the Guardian Angels and Chaska Moravian churches as the theme for this program. Pieces by Minnesota composers include “Concertino for Tuba and Band” by Frank Bencriscutto, long-time bandmaster at the University of Minnesota, and “Chorale and Shaker Dance” by John Zdechlik. In addition to those “homegrown” composers, the band will play two marches by John Phillip Sousa: “Minnesota March” and “The Foshay Tower March.” Tengblad joins the band on “Aspen Jubilee” followed by a selection of her own. Tengblad is a recent graduate of St Olaf College. She did solo work with the St. Olaf Choir and currently sings with VocalEssence. She is the daughter of (Chaska native) Doree Du Toit and Tim Tengblad.
