Stockwell speaks at prayer breakfast
May 4, 2007 - 2:58pm — FAdams
Retired Iraq War veteran Melissa Stockwell, Eden Prairie High School Class of 1998, spoke at the National Day of Prayer breakfast at Eden Prairie's Woodale Church. Stockwell lost most of her left leg in Iraq when the Humvee she was riding in was blasted with an improvised explosive device. She credits a medic in her convoy with saving her life. During one year of intense rehab at Walter Reed Medical Center, she got a prosthetic leg and learned to walk again. She said the support and prayers she received from family and friends during that time and is still receiving has been "nothing short of incredible." "I always knew that prayer could be a positive thing," she commented during the speech. "I stand here now, and in the two years since I lost my leg I've done more with my life than I ever would have." Read the conclusion of this story in next week's edition of the Villager.
