Staff writer Forrest Adams was in Beijing, China, from November 13-18, as a tourist. He found a growing modern city with ancient attractions. This was his second visit to Beijing and first since 1998.

Beijing is pronounced (Bayjing), and it is the same city as Peking (pronounced Payking). The different words are due to different translations.
