A Glencoe, Minn., man has been convicted in conjunction with the sale of methamphetamine to an undercover agent, according to a release from Carver County Attorney Mike Fahey.
Following a jury trial that commenced Sept. 14, Brian David Labaw, 45, was found guilty of three counts of controlled substance in the first, second and third degree. On July 28, 2006, Labaw sold 13 grams of crystal methamphetamine to an undercover informant working with the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force (SWMDTF). Local law enforcement agents working in Carver County with the SWMDTF are full-time deputies with the Carver County Sheriff’s Office.
Judge Kevin Eide presided over the trial and ordered Labaw be remanded to the custody of the Carver County Jail. Judge Eide also ordered a pre-sentence investigation for the purpose of sentencing, which is set for Friday, Nov. 3.
Assistant County Attorney Peter Ivy prosecuted the case. Chaska Attorney Richard Swanson represented the defendant. Following the verdicts, Ivy complimented the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force on its proactive approach to seeking out and stinging would-be methamphetamine dealers in Carver County. In addition, Ivy noted that because so much crime is related to methamphetamine in one way or another, such as assaults, bad checks and thefts, the Carver County Attorney’s Office will continue to closely partner with the SWMDTF to pursue, charge and convict any person who sells methamphetamine in Carver County.
