Minnetonka High School is proud to announce the opening of the Writing Center, which is the first project endowed by the Minnetonka Public Schools Foundation.

This project is only possible through the generous contributions of community and business leaders to the Endowment Fund. The Writing Center will serve as a resource for students, helping to create a culture of writers at Minnetonka High School. It will share space with the College and Career Center.

Staff will be on hand to coach students on strategies for writing, revising and proofreading. They will also offer help with essays, college applications, term papers and other writing projects.

“This is a very exciting opportunity for Minnetonka Public Schools,” said Trish Tennyson, Chairperson, Minnetonka Public Schools Foundation. “The Foundation has been working on this project for over a year, and it’s amazing to see it come to life. Our goal is to inspire students to develop a passion for writing, a skill that will continue to benefit them in future years once they graduate from Minnetonka Public Schools. The Writing Center is one of those resources.”

The center’s initial services will include drop-in help, one-on-one tutoring, in-class conferencing and teacher support, and small group sessions. Future offerings will include seminars, tools for writers, mentorships and internships, and resources for publishing. Additionally, teachers will be able to participate in training to support the writing process in their classrooms.

Minnetonka Public Schools Foundation is on the leading edge in creating an endowment fund to support enrichment in a public school district. The Endowment Fund is supported in part through the Dream Makers Dinner, scheduled for February 9 this year. The Foundation is now accepting sponsors and donations for the live and silent auctions.
