The fourth annual Minnetonka Youth Triathlon will kick off with a torch relay on Wednesday, April 30.

In the spirit of the summer Olympics, principals and teams of teachers and students will run the torch from school to school, celebrating their Tonka Pride and the Olympic theme of Harmony. Principal Cindy Andress will kick off the relay at an 8:30 a.m. ceremony  at Minnewashta Elementary amid cheering students and a  fanfare by Minnetonka High School band members. Then the Minnewashta team will run the torch to Minnetonka Middle School West.

The relay teams will carry the torch to all six elementary schools and both middle schools, finally returning the torch to Minnetonka Middle School East, the home of the Youth Triathlon, scheduled for Saturday, May 3.  The torch relay will pass through seven cities and will travel a total of 18.7 miles.

Over 150 youth ages in grades 2 -8 are expected to compete in the Minnetonka Youth Triathlon on Saturday, May 3. Participants will swim, bike, and run and compete for trophies in 3 age divisions. The Youth Triathlon, sponsored by Minnetonka Community Education, will be held at Minnetonka Middle School East.
