Women’s Fire Service Expo coming up
The Third Annual Women’s Fire Service Expo is scheduled for Saturday, May 31, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the South Metro Public Safety Training Facility, 7525 Braemar Blvd., Edina. According to its Web site, www.edenprairie.org/firewomen/ [1], the Expo is “an all-day event, including some classroom time, but mostly hands-on scenarios. This event is for women who are interested in becoming a firefighter, but would like to ‘try it out’ for a day. After a brief classroom session, participants will work hands-on with local female firefighters to put out fires, cut cars apart, do search and rescue, and other exciting scenarios. Representatives from the participating departments will also be available to answer questions, and hand out recruiting information to those interested.”
Sponsoring departments include: Bloomington, Chanhassen, Eden Prairie, Edina, Hopkins, Minnetonka, Plymouth, Savage, St. Louis Park and Victoria along with the Hennepin Technical College Fire Program and the North Star Women’s Firefighter Association.
The event is free, but you must register no later than May 23. If you have questions, or would like additional information, contact Kimberly Cummings at the city of Eden Prairie at 952-949-8300. For a registration form, visit www.edenprairie.org/firewomen/ [2].
