Alexander to serve as new
HR director in Minnetonka
Tim Alexander joined Minnetonka Public Schools as executive director for human resources this month, replacing Dr. Mike Lovett who moved in July to a superintendent position in White Bear Lake School District.
Alexander comes to Minnetonka from Rochester Public Schools where he served as director of human resources for more than six years. He brings experience and proven leadership skills accrued through various roles including director of teaching and learning for Rochester Public Schools, principal of Elgin-Millville Public Schools and more than 15 years as athletic director, teacher and coach at Spring Grove Public Schools and Willow Lake Public Schools in Willow Lake, S.D.
“We are very happy to welcome Tim to Minnetonka. He is a proven educational leader,” said Minnetonka Superintendent Dennis Peterson. “There is nothing more important than the interaction among teacher and student in our classrooms. Continuing our tradition of selecting and attracting the very best will be an important priority; however, the field of human resource is also one of understanding labor law, negotiating with collective bargaining groups and [in Minnetonka] handling international partnerships and visas. We certainly looked for an experienced and highly skilled professional who knows education. Tim will be a strong addition to our leadership team.”
Alexander expressed excitement at the opportunity to join the Minnetonka School District.
“Minnetonka is one of the few districts in Minnesota for which I would have considered leaving Rochester. Minnetonka has an excellent reputation and their vision of being a world-class school district focused on child-centered excellence is certainly what attracted me to this position,” he said. “In many ways, the responsibilities will be very similar. Minnetonka and Rochester both use the Ventures for Excellence selection model and have the same online application system. I see the real work as getting out in the schools and supporting the exciting learning opportunities. Ventures for Excellence has a motto, that the greatest contribution we can make is an excellent teacher in every classroom. That has been my passion and I am excited to continue this important work in Minnetonka.”
Alexander’s education includes an associate arts degree with a liberal arts concentration from Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa, a bachelor’s degree in life science, physical education and health from South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D., and a master’s degree in health and physical education and grade 7-12 principal and superintendent licensure from Winona State University in Winona, Minn.
