Does Al Franken have a chance?

Al Franken – comedian, author, talk show host and political pundit – announced plans on Wednesday to run as a candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2008, challenging incumbent Republican Sen. Norm Coleman.

What do you think about his candidacy? Does Franken have a chance?

Here's what the Minnesota GOP said about Franken's announcement. I got this in an emailed press release earlier today:

Franken to Angry Partisans & Liberal Hollywood Elites: Be My Valentine!

St. Paul- Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Ron Carey today issued the following statement regarding Al Franken’s candidacy for the U.S. Senate.

“Given his blind partisanship and extreme anger, Al Franken is the last person Minnesotans need in the United States Senate.  While Senator Norm Coleman continues to work with all sides for the betterment of our state and nation, Franken offers Minnesotans nothing but polarization and vitriolic personal attacks.”

When Franken reads this release, he only needs to resort to his Stuart Smalley alter ego, repeating into a mirror: “I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me”
