Beginning in January, townships in Carver County that don’t pay for contract police services can expect to see a decline in selected services from the Sheriff’s Office.

Students in Excelsior Elementary were called to community service on Veterans Day by a retired U.S. Navy veteran who lives it. At 83 years old, he fills his time with volunteerism and gardening.
The Chanhassen City Council, minus Councilor Jerry McDonald who was absent, gave tacit approval Monday night to proposed rate increases to the city's utility rates in 2010.
The council will vote on the issue at its regular meeting in City Council Chambers on December 14.

The following is a list that was distributed to Chanhassen City Councilors prior to their work session meeting about the proposed city utility rate increases for 2010. The list shows projects that are to be paid for with various funds in the city, but they have been put on hold because of slower growth than was originally projected in the city.

Through September, city planners had issued permits for the construction of 54 new residential dwelling units. These have a valuation of $18,965,000. That's still fewer than the 66 permits given in 2008 with a valuation of $21,407,000, but Senior Planner Bob Generous predicted the city would surpass last year's totals.

The City of Chanhassen is seeking interested residents to fill a vacant position on the SouthWest Transit Commission to represent Chanhassen. This position is a three-year term from January 1, 2010 - December 31, 2012.

The annual Halloween party will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, in the Chanhassen Recreation Center. The Chanhassen Station Park & Ride project has progressed to the point where it will be submitted to the Chanhassen Planning Commission and the city council for site plan approval. City Manager Todd Gerhardt will discuss the project with city councilors during their work session meeting (5:30-7:00 p.m.) on Monday, Oct. 12. Also on the agenda is a discussion with a representative from Wells Fargo about the city's financial policy and an update of how the city's investments have performed.
Minnesota Senator Al Franken wrote a letter to Chanhassen City Manager Todd Gerhardt on Aug. 6, 2009, congratulating him "on Chanhassen being ranked number two on Money Magazine's 'Best Places to Life.'"
Bring your items to the Carver County Environmental Center on Friday, Oct. 23, and receive $20 in FREE recycling fees. Chanhassen residents can recycle items such as appliances, tires, yard waste and scrap metal. These items have associated fees, but on Oct. 23, the first $20 per address will be free of charge. You will need to present an ID to verify your residency.

The annual Chanhassen Fire Department open house is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 11, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the main fire station, 7610 Laredo Drive. Meet members of the fire department and shake hands with Sparky the fire dog. Fire tuck rides will be offered, along with demonstrations and exhibits by the Fire Department, Carver County Sheriff's Department, Mounted Posse, Ridgeview Medical Paramedics, and Xcel Energy.
