Indeed, later in the morning Gov. Mark Dayton called lawmakers back to the Capitol for a vote on a two-year budget, with the session to start at 3 p.m.
Assistant Majority Leader Rep. Joe Hoppe, a Chaska Republican, said in e-mail correspondence that he is “not thrilled with the budget deal” but that he would vote for it during special session. Rep. Ernie Leidiger, a Mayer Republican, said earlier this month that he thinks the $35.4 billion budget is too much.On his drive into St. Paul on Tuesday morning, Leidiger said he was inclined to vote against the budget. Ortman, chair of the Senate tax committee, said she would vote for it, noting: "We have to get the state back to work."
The shutdown resulted in layoffs for 22,000 state workers, stopped road projects, closed state parks, suspended many state programs and hindered private businesses statewide.
